7 Fantastic Things to Do in Old Town Alcudia Mallorca

We recently returned from traveling to Mallorca as a family and it was a total dream. We rented a car and traveled all over the island (which I highly recommend doing).

One of our favorite stops on our trip was Old Town Alcudia. We enjoyed it so much that we actually went back a second day as well (and that’s saying a lot that two young kids were asking to go back and explore a village on foot again).

Alcudia Old Town

Alcudia Old Town is a beautiful gem of a village in the north of Mallorca. It’s an old city dating back to the 1300s surrounded by medieval walls that are still standing today (and that you can walk atop!)

The walled Old City of Alcudia is not to be confused with its nearby neighbor Port de Alcúdia which is a very touristy area full of resorts.

Many people stay in Port de Alcudia and never even venture to visit Old Town Alcudia which is a shame because it’s one of the best things to see in Mallorca!

This post is here to let you know the top things to do in Old Town Alcudia to help you have as great of a time as we did. There’s even a map with pin locations and the available parking in the area.

Is the Old Town in Alcudia Worth Visiting?

Definitely! We loved our time wandering and exploring Alcudia Old Town. Many of the streets are closed to cars while other streets are only open to the cars of people that live there (which means it’s a lovely place to stroll).

Alcudia Old Town has beautiful neighborhoods lined with colorful flowers and unique shops, plus a medieval wall circling the city you can walk atop. In my opinion, it’s one of the best villages in Mallorca to visit.

We visited Alcudia Old Town with a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old and they loved exploring, shopping, and walking atop the wall. They loved it so much that they even asked to return a second day (which we did!).

We didn’t have a stroller with us, but the streets are very stroller-friendly and it’s a plus that there are next to no cars.

1. Wander the Beautiful Streets of Alcudia Old Town

One of the best things about Alcudia Old Town is that there are so few cars. Many of the streets are pedestrian-only streets and the other streets seem to only be open to residents-which means we rarely saw cars.

Having no cars made walking around so peaceful and nice because we weren’t worried about our little ones getting hit.

For comparison, we also spent time in the village of Sóller, and it was a very different experience because of the small roads and traffic. Alcudia Old Town was much more peaceful.

Neighborhoods in Old Town Alcudia

We visited Mallorca the first week of June and there were streets in the Old City of Alcudia that we felt we had all to ourselves. Even the streets with shops didn’t feel too crowded (and we visited other areas in Mallorca that felt very crowded for the first week of June).

I hear if you visit in the morning on Sundays and Tuesdays when the market is being held, it’s much more crowded. So if you prefer a quieter experience, steer clear of market days.

2. Shop for Souvenirs in a picturesque atmosphere

I love popping into a few good shops while traveling to see if I can find a fun little souvenir. However, I really dislike super kitschy, tacky souvenir shops.

The good news is, the shops in Alcudia Old Town are cute, unique and tasteful plus they are in a beautiful setting!

Yes, yes, I know I’m a tourist shopping in touristy stores but I at least appreciate it when they are cute and a bit more unique and that’s one of the great things about Alcudia Old Town.

Yes, you’ll find some shops with repetitive items, but you’ll also find shops selling handmade items and local shops with unique offerings.

Basically, as soon as you enter the Old Town from either city gate you’ll stumble upon cute shops.

A good street to start on is Carrer del Moll or Carrer Major, but there are a lot of lovely side streets that are fun to explore that also have cute shops-so no need to limit yourself to just one area.

We were in Mallorca with our two young kids and they LOVED shopping for souvenirs in the Old Town of Alcudia. Their grandparents gave them a small amount of money for souvenir shopping and this was one of the kids’ favorite (and our favorite) places for them to shop for things.

3. Take a Walk atop the Ancient City Wall for a Different View of Alcudia Old Town

If you visit Alcudia Old Town, be sure to take a walk atop the Medieval Walls from the 1300s that surround the town.

There are a couple of different staircases you can use to get atop the walls, but they are a bit tricky to find so here is the Google Pin to the staircase we used.

You can’t circle the entire old city of Alcudia (just a portion of it) but that was fine with us. It was the perfect length of walk (not very long) to the next staircase where you descend from atop the wall.

I love seeing places from different vantage points and walking atop the wall was perfect for that. You get a behind-the-scenes look of the rooftops and some of the residential areas of Alcudia Old Town.

Plus, you get to walk atop a wall from the 1300s which is cool enough on its own!

4. Admire the Two City Gates of Alcudia

Two out of the three original large city gates still stand today and you can enter through them on either side of the city. Although these are the gates to the city, there are now also other various openings that you can enter the city through as well.

The two gates are called Porta de Mallorca and Porta de Moll, and both of these gates open up to one of the main shopping streets in the city. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of them, but just imagine a large medieval city gate with an arch you walk through to enter the city.

5. Cool down with some Ice Cream in the Old town of Alcudia

I basically recommend getting ice cream anywhere and everywhere, but eating ice cream in the charming streets of Old Town Alcudia is a must-do.

There are a few different options for ice cream in the small city and I’m sure they are all good. We just chose an ice cream stand we happened to be walking past and were totally satisfied.

6. Visit the Roman Ruins of Pollentia & the Small Museum Along with it in Alcudia Old Town

If you’re someone who loves history, then be sure to make a stop at the uncovered Roman Ruins of the City of Pollentia that are literally just right outside the wall of Alcudia Old Town.

With your very inexpensive entrance ticket to the ruins, you can also access a small museum within the Old Town called Museum Monogràfic de Pollença featuring archaeological finds from the excavation of the ruins.

The website for the ruins and museum is lacking, but you can check it out here.

7. Visit the Pop-Up Alcudia Old Town Market on Sundays and Tuesdays

Every Sunday and Tuesday morning from about 8 am – 1:30 pm a large market is held in the Old Town of Alcudia. The market in Alcudia Old Town is one of the largest markets in Mallorca and draws a large crowd (so if you prefer a quieter experience in the city I recommend visiting not on a market day).

If you want a more lively atmosphere, then visiting on one of the Old Town Alcudia market days may be just what you are looking for.

The Old Town market in Alcudia is held right near one of the gates into the city called Porta de Moll.
