Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm: How To Visit a Soller Orange Farm

One of our favorite experiences we had in Mallorca as a family was our visit to Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm in the mountains of Sóller.

Think mouth-watering oranges, peaceful vibes, epic mountain views, and gorgeous old Spanish homes dotting the landscape. It’s amazing.

When researching Soller, I read a lot about how the valley was famous for its oranges and that seeing the orange trees of Soller was essential.

However, I found it very difficult to figure out HOW to see orange trees in Sóller🤪. Since we were traveling with young kids, it wasn’t going to work to wander and walk around until we stumbled upon an orange grove.

Plus, we wanted to get up close and personal with the trees, not just admire them from outside of a farmer’s fence.

But thankfully, I stumbled upon Ecovinyassa citrus farm, the only orange farm in Soller (or Mallorca for that matter) that you can visit!

Places to stay near THIS Soller Orange Farm

WHERE WE STAYED:

😍 SON ALZINES BOUTIQUE AGROTOURISM HOTEL: This is where we stayed in the Tramuntana Mountains, and we absolutely LOVED it. It’s by far one of our favorite accommodations we’ve ever stayed in (plus it’s affordable!).

They have 1-2 bedroom apartment-style accommodations with stunning mountain views, a lovely pool, and a delicious (optional) breakfast and dinner.

It’s not technically right near Ecovinyassa (it’s a 1-hour drive away). But it is located in the Tramuntana mountains, where Ecovinyassa is located, and the drive to and from is beautiful.

PERFECT HOTELS NEARBY IN SÓLLER:

💰 HOTEL CASA BOUGAINVILLEA: Affordable, traditional Spanish hotel in Soller with a relaxing outdoor breakfast.

💰💰 HOTEL CA’L BISBE: Highly rated Spanish-style hotel in Soller with rooms with mountain views. Lovely on-site pool, breakfast, and dinner available.

💰💰💰 CA’S XORC LUXURY RETREAT (ADULTS ONLY): STUNNING, renovated rural Spanish hotel on a hill in Sóller with breathtaking mountain and valley views. Beautiful pool and an amazing on-site pool with gorgeous views.

How to Visit an Orange Farm in Soller

Orange trees thrive in Sóller due to the valley’s unique microclimate in the Tramuntana mountains, and the true orange production boom happened in the 1800s-1900s.

At that time, the Sóller Valley was much more difficult to reach from the rest of Mallorca, so residents began exporting its oranges directly from the Port of Sóller to greater Europe.

While orange farms are not as prevalent in Sóller as they once were, there are still many groves, mostly focusing on local production.

While researching our trip to Mallorca, I found it so difficult to find how to actually see a Soller orange farm.

I had read things that said something along the lines of ‘just walk around Sóller, and you’ll be sure to pass orange groves’.

Sure, if you get outside of the village of Sóller, you’re bound to find some orange farms; however, these are all private, they’re surrounded by fences, and it might take a bit of wandering.

Thankfully, though, you can visit Ecovinyassa, a gorgeous orange and citrus farm just a 10-minute drive from the center of Soller.

Ecovinyassa has worked hard to create an amazing, quiet, peaceful oasis in the Tramuntana mountains where you can wander through orange and lemon trees and taste the best oranges and orange juice you’ve ever had in your life (seriously, it will ruin oranges for you forever).

They strictly limit daily visitors to ensure that it remains a peaceful experience and the farm is protected, which I have a lot of respect for.

Our visit to Ecovinyassa was a true highlight of our week in Mallorca, and I often daydream of tasting those oranges again.

You MUST book your tickets online, in advance (it’s required, plus they sell out). And they are only open limited days and hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 am- 3 pm (so be sure to plan accordingly).

If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, I recommend booking this Sóller Valley Walking Tour With Orange Farm Visit (Ecovinyassa).

It’s a walking tour that starts in the center of the village of Sóller and takes you out through the beautiful landscape to reach Ecovinyassa.

The walking tour from Sóller to Ecovinyassa sounds like a really idyllic way to experience the area. If we hadn’t been traveling with young kids, I would have highly considered visiting Ecovinyassa this way.

Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm Experience

Ecovinyassa has really curated the perfect, peaceful experience at their citrus farm in Sóller. They really limit the number of visitors so that when you’re walking through the farm, you’re often by yourself.

Close up image of oranges on a tree in Sóller Mallorca at Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm

In these next sections, I’ll go through the different parts of a typical visit to Ecovinyassa. Spoiler alert: it’s calm, beautiful, and full of delicious oranges.

We spent about two hours from start to finish at Ecovinyassa, but this was with taking it very slow and enjoying all the stops along the way with a lot of photos. In no way are you walking for two hours.

Two hours is also the amount of time they say on their website that the experience might take. However, you could do it much faster if you walked quickly, didn’t dilly-dally, and didn’t take many photos.

🐓 Feeding the Chickens at Ecovinyassa

When you first arrive at Ecovinyassa, they check you in and explain how the experience works (remember, they’ll most likely turn you away if you don’t have a booking). They explain the walk, how to find your orange snack halfway through, and about the tapas at the end.

The walk through the orange trees begins by passing the chickens on the farm.

If you have kids, the first thing they do is offer each child a small pail of food to feed the chickens. The chickens are just at the beginning of the walk through the orange trees, but you’re welcome to hang out with them for as long as you’d like.

We thought it was great fun to feed the chickens, and it was the perfect way to immediately engage the kids in the experience.

🍊Self-Guided Walk Through Orange Trees (and other citrus fruits) with Mountain Views

After feeding the chickens, we continued our self-guided walk through the farm. It felt so peaceful and calm, taking in the views of orange trees with beautiful mountains in the background.

Close up image of oranges on a tree in Sóller Mallorca at Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm with mountains in the background

The farm is really nestled into the Sóller Valley, hugged by mountains. Photos don’t do it justice to how pretty of an area it is.

There is a dedicated, easy-to-follow walkway that is sometimes paved and sometimes dirt (stroller-friendly).

We were often by ourselves, only occasionally encountering other guests, which made for a very relaxing experience.

In front of many of the trees is a small plaque explaining the type of tree, or offering insight into local agricultural methods or the history of the area.

I’m grateful that they had some information to read; however, I did leave wishing for a little bit more.

It seemed like most of the signs were explaining the type of fruit growing, where I would have loved a deeper dive into orange production and local history (although some of that was also offered).

Close up of a woman with a background of oranges in a tree

That being said, maybe I missed some since we were walking through with two young kids.

You’re not allowed to pick any of the oranges, but that’s okay because they pick some for you that you get to taste halfway through!

🍊Orange Tasting in the Shade

About halfway through the walk, you come upon a lovely, shaded area with a table and oranges to sample (or it at least seems like it would be shaded for most of the day).

There are actually two different shady spots with a table and baskets full of oranges, and you look at the names on the baskets to see which stop is yours.

That’s just another nice touch they’ve done to spread out the guests so you’re not on top of each other, even during your orange tasting.

Each guest in your group gets one orange, and they have a cutting board and knife available for you to prep your fruit.

The oranges at Ecovinyassa were literally the best oranges we’ve ever had in our lives, and I’m not even exaggerating. Even our kids, who are sometimes hit-or-miss with oranges, devoured them.

We got sufficiently covered in sticky juice and were ready to finish our walk through the farm.

🍊Final Tasting of Orange Juice and Tapas

Once you’re back at the beginning, they have set up a bunch of nice tables in the shade under a large tree where you get ANOTHER sampling of goodies.

We were served fresh orange juice and plates with bread and tomato, followed by crispy bread with orange marmalade.

The orange juice was (obviously) top-notch amazing-we couldn’t get enough of it. I was less impressed with the bread and tomato (the bread felt a little stale), but the orange marmalade was also fun to taste.

But again, it was all just presented in such a lovely atmosphere that really made the experience something nice.

They had highchairs available and located right next to the sitting area was a very small play area for the kids, which was appreciated.

Practical Info To Visit Ecovinyassa: An Orange Grove in Soller

OPENING HOURS: Ecovinyassa is only open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am- 3 pm, and online reservations are REQUIRED.

PRICES: Adults: 22 €; Children: 10 € (4 until 12 years)

INCLUDES: Orange tasting amongst the trees + orange juice and bread/tomato/marmelade snack at the end.

Entry times sell out, so be sure to book in advance! We visited Ecovinyassa in early June and booked our spot about a week prior, but only got a spot because they had a cancellation.

So, I’d recommend booking as early as you can, especially if you are visiting in the busiest months of July or August.

If you show up without an online reservation, they’ll turn you away (they tell you this plus we saw it happen to someone).

As I mentioned earlier, if you’re looking for a truly unique experience in Mallorca, I recommend booking this Soller Valley Walking Tour with an Orange Farm Visit (Ecovinyassa).

It’s a walking tour that starts in the center of the village of Sóller and takes you out through the beautiful landscape to reach Ecovinyassa.

We haven’t taken this guided walk, but it sounds like a really idyllic way to experience Soller and Ecovinyassa. If we hadn’t been traveling with such young kids, I think we definitely would have booked it.

Ecovinyassa CITRUS FARM Sóller Review

Overall, we absolutely loved our experience at Ecovinyassa, seeing and tasting local Sóller oranges, and I’d give our experience 4.9/5 stars.

It’s really a unique experience in Majorca that can’t be missed. The beautiful atmosphere mixed with the tastiest oranges ever really makes a visit to Ecovinyassa Citrus Farm memorable.
