We recently returned from a family trip to Mallorca (kids ages 5 and 2) and it was absolutely amazing. The weather was perfect, there were fewer crowds and we had a blast exploring the beaches, seaside towns and mountain villages.
While researching the weather for our trip, I quickly learned that the summer in Majorca can get HOT. We landed on visiting Mallorca in May (the last week) to avoid the heat but still have a warm, summery vacation and I’m so glad we did.

We were able to enjoy everything about the island all while keeping our cool.
This guide is to help you figure out the weather for Majorca in May and decide if it’s also the perfect time for you to visit the island.

Is May a Good Time to Visit Mallorca?
Yes! May is definitely one of the best times to travel to Mallorca. The summer season has started, meaning that hotels, restaurants, and shops are open. However, the season isn’t yet in full swing, so there are fewer crowds than come in July or August.

The weather is warm and sunny, however, it isn’t too hot. It’s the perfect weather for exploring villages, laying out on the beach, swimming, cycling, and hiking.

What is the Mallorca Weather in May?
My favorite way to research the weather of a specific destination is to visit Accuweather. On Accuweather, I search for my specific destination and then in the top bar select ‘monthly’.
This pulls up a calendar with the expected average high and low temperature for each day of your selected month in the upcoming year.
However, my favorite feature is to select the month of the previous year in the dropdown menu to see the actual high and low temperatures of each day.
This gives a pretty good comprehensive view of what the weather may be like while you’re visiting.

The average highs for the weather in Majorca in May vary from 70°F – 80°F. Of course, this depends on the day and the weather that year. However, that’s a pretty great forecast!
We visited in the last week of May, and most days the temps were around 75°F with the hottest temps hitting 81°F. It was pretty perfect.
Let me tell you, when it did hit 80°F it felt HOT. I can’t imagine visiting in peak summer when the daily temps are between 85°F and 90°F every day. It would feel SO hot- I think we would have been pretty miserable anytime we weren’t actively playing in the water.
Can you Swim in Mallorca Spain in May?
Yes! Although, the water is still a little cold because it hasn’t warmed up as much as it will by the end of the summer. The average water temperature in May is 69° F, whereas compared to August, the average water temp is 80° F 😲.

That being said, we went swimming at different beaches and unheated pools almost every day and it was totally fine. I would have preferred for the water to be a BIT warmer, but I’d rather have to get used to cold water coupled with perfect weather than have warmer water and be melting in the summer heat like you would in August.

It could be a bit chilly when we came out of the water if it was breezy. But we’d just wrap up in our towel in the sun for a minute and then be ok.
If you’re worried about it not being warm enough to swim in May, just visit at the tail end of the month (like we did) and you should for sure be ok. Or you could visit in the first couple weeks of June and definitely be fine.
What to Wear when Visiting Mallorca in May
When we visited Mallorca in late May we wore shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, and linen every day. Occasionally, we wore a light sweater on evening walks or for dinner outside.

We wore swimsuits or light coverups on the beach and spent much of our time playing in the water.

What to Do in Mallorca in May
- Go to the beach! May is perfect for laying out or even swimming
- Take a cruise on the water (we saw loads of people on a boat trip like this visiting Sa Calobra and we ALMOST took this 2-hour boat ride to secluded beaches ourselves )
- Explore villages without getting too hot (one of our favorite villages was Old Town Alcudia)
- Visit an orange farm and eat fresh oranges
- Hike to a secluded beach like Cala Figuera
- Enjoy local festivals in May such as the Estellencs Wine and Cheese Fair or Es Firo Sóller

Other Good Times to Visit Majorca
If you can’t make May work but still want warm, sunny weather in Mallorca without out it being too hot then I would consider the first half of June, the second half of September or the first half of October.
The average temperatures at these times are between 75°F and 82°F, which in my opinion, is just about perfect and all of the restaurants, hotels and other shops are still in full swing.
