Vejers Strand Camping Denmark: What It’s Really Like

I searched long and hard to find a beautiful and unique campground in Denmark, eventually landing on Vejers Strand Camping, located on Denmark’s stunning west coast.

What makes Vejers Strand Camping so special is that some of the sites are nestled right in the middle of the sand dunes.

The surrounding area is beautiful- dunes of different heights, covered in flowing beach grass and blooming rose hips.

You can reach the beach from the campground in just 1-2 minutes via a trail amongst the dunes- it’s amazing.

This guide is to give you a peek into our experience at Vejers Strand Camping to help you decide if it’s the right getaway for you, too.

The Beach Cabins at Vejers Strand Camping

Not only is Vejers Strand Camping a campground, but they also have five cabins you can book.

Each cabin built for two people and is fully equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, and a terrace overlooking the dunes.

These are a great way to stay close to the beach and enjoy the daily walk through the dunes from the campground, while not having to bring along camping gear.

The cabins are located in a secluded area near the back of the campground (meaning they are the furthest from the beach); however, the walk to the beach is still quite short.

With a cabin booking, you get free access each day to Blåvand Kurbad & Wellness, which is part of Hvidbjerg Strand Holiday Park in Blåvand, with saunas and pools overlooking the sea and additional services available for an extra cost.

The campsites at Vejers Strand Camping

The real focus of Vejers Strand Camping is its campsites. Vejers Strand has a variety of campsites available that fit tents, campers/RVs, 4×4 vans, and rooftop tents.

Almost all of the sites include electricity unless they are tent-specific sites. Of course, if you are tent camping and don’t need electricity, you are still welcome to book a site with electricity even if you won’t be using it (that’s what we did).

Some of the sites require 4-wheel-drive because of bumpy, steep, or sandy terrain (in my opinion, the 4×4 sites generally seem to be the most appealing as far as privacy and beauty go).

We were in campsite 318

We booked site 318 (or one right near there) and were tucked up against a grassy dune; however, there wasn’t any privacy on the sides.

The sites numbered in the 400s are in a large, flat grassy area with campers parked one right next to another. Of course, some people don’t mind this; however, I think if you have the opportunity to book a space more tucked into the sand dunes, you should definitely do it.

I’ve circled the areas on the site map below that seemed (to me) to be the most cozied up into the dunes.

When booking, you have the option to specify which site you want, or you can choose just the type of site and let the system automatically book for you.

You can view and download the site map on the Vejers Strand Camping website here.

The Path to the Beach at Vejers Strand Camping Dänemark

My favorite things about camping at Vejers Strand is HOW CLOSE you are to the beach.

Walking from the beach back to Vejers Strand Camping

The beach is literally just a 1-3 minute walk away from the closest campsites, and just a bit further from the furthest sites.

There are multiple trails through the dunes to easily access the beach

You can see on the campground map that there are 9-10 paths across the dunes that make it quick and easy to reach the beach, no matter where your site is positioned.

We had about a 3-5 minute walk to the beach (with young kids) from campsite 318.

There are multiple, well-worn paths to cross the dunes from the campsite to the beach, and it’s just a beautiful area.

I find the sandunes on the west coast of Denmark to be some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Denmark, so how great is it to camp so close to them and cross them multiple times a day to and from the beach?

Be sure to visit the beach at sunset!

We spent the warm afternoon at the beach and were sure to walk back again to catch the gorgeous sunset over the sea.

The Beach at Vejers Strand Camping

The beach at Vejers Strand camping is very similar to many of the beaches you find on the west coast of Denmark.

Vejers Strand

It’s a long, sprawling, sandy beach hugged by dunes on the backside and the water is often calm and shallow, making it a great place for kids to play.

The beach is accessible via car (not from the campsite but from a public entrance, which is here on Google Maps)-which is great if you want to spend the day with your camper van on the beach.

Facilities at Vejers Strand Camping

Vejers Camping offers many different facilities to make your trip smooth and comfortable. Below is a list of most of their facilities; however, you can visit their website here to learn more.

I wish that the campground supplied a picnic table at each site, rather than just communal picnic tables. However, that can be solved by bringing your own folding table instead.

  • Bathrooms and showers (including dog washing zone)
  • Indoor kitchen facilities
  • BBQ area
  • Communal picnic tables

  • Playground
  • On-site beach bar serving pizza, hamburgers, and hot dogs
  • Market, bakery, and ice cream shop
  • Access to Blåvand Kurbad & Wellness at Hvidbjerg Strand Feriepark (with an added fee)
  • Occasional events and activities throughout the summer, like the annual ‘Van Life and BBQ’ weekend held in early May

And that was our experience camping at Vejers Strand Camping on the Danish West Coast! Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions. I’ll be sure to get back to you.
