Allmendhubel Flower Playground in Mürren Switzerland
By FAR one of the most beautiful playgrounds we’ve ever visited is the Allmendhubel Murren Playground.
The Allmendhubel Playground (sometimes called Allmendhubel Adventure Park or Allmendhubel Flower Park) is situated atop a hill above Mürren, and has the most epic snow-capped Eiger mountain peak views.
Just think of the most beautiful alpine playground you can imagine, surrounded by panoramic views of the Swiss Alps on all sides, and Allmdnehubel Playground is probably better 😍.
This playground is very close to Lauterbrunnen and is a must-visit if you plan to visit the Lauterbrunnen area with kids.
We played at Allmendhubel playground for hourssss and I’m sure we could have played even longer. It’s the perfect place for your kids to run around and have a blast while you get to soak in the gorgeous mountain views.
This guide is to let you know how to get to this gorgeous Swiss alpine playground (it can be a bit confusing), to show you a ton of pictures that will really give you playground envy, and also to let you in on some cool things to do nearby.

😍 Bungalows at Camping Jungfrau:We LOVED staying in these 2-bedroom bungalows located RIGHT at the base of Staubbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen. They are super cute, have an amazing view, a full kitchen, and they are AFFORDABLE.

🛖 Ballenberg Open-Air Museum: This open-air museum was an unexpected surprise and we really enjoyed getting a glimpse into the past. We even got to see how they used to make cheese and have a cheese tasting!
🚲 Lauterbrunnen Valley Bike Rentals: The best way to explore the gorgeous Lauterbrunnen Valley is on bike (in my humble opinion). It's so much more fun than walking and you get to see so much more. They have e-bikes along with kid bikes and trailers!
🧗 Murren Via Ferrata: My husband took this beginner-friendly vai Ferrata tour (while we played at an alpine playground) and it was his favorite experience of the entire trip.

When is the Allmendhubel Flower Playground Open?
The funicular that leads to the Allmendhubel playground is generally open from late May to mid-October. However, if it’s outside of those dates and the weather is good enough, you can always take the steep hike up to the playground.
How to get from Lauterbrunnen to Almendhubel Playground in Mürren + Cost
There are two different ways to reach the Allmendhubel Playground from Lauterbrunnen and the price to reach the playground is going to depend on the route you take and whether you have a Swiss Travel Pass or not.
Lauterbrunnen is located at the bottom of a long, cliff-lined valley, and to reach Allmendhubel from Lauterbrunnen, you must go either over and then up or up and then over. There are two different routes to do that.
Both routes take basically the same amount of time and cost almost the same; it’s more or less just two different ways to get there.
If you want to look up the routes and prices on your own, you can do that via the SBB app or on SBB.ch but I will go into detail for each route below.
Route One To Allmendhubel via Grütschalp (with train)
First, I’ll cover the least expensive route to reach Allmendhubel from Lauterbrunnen.
First, take the Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp.
Once in Grütschalp, take the 10-minute mountain railway train ride from Grütschalp to Murren (Mürren BLM) (alternatively, you can hike this path as well, and it takes about 1-1.5 hours. Read more about hiking from Grütschalp to Murren on All Trails here).
Once in Mürren, take a beautiful 10-minute walk through town to find the Allmendhubel Funicular (Allmendhubelbahn).
Take the 4-minute ride up the Almendhubel Funicular, and you’ve reached the Mürren ‘Flower Park’ Allmendhubel playground!

Route Two to Allmendhubel via Stechelberg (with bus/Car)
Now, I’ll cover how we reached Allmendhubel from Lauterbrunnen by taking a short drive (or you can take a short bus) from Lauterbrunnen.
From Lauterbrunnen, you take either a 10-minute bus or car ride directly to the Schilthornbahn Cable Car Station/ Stechelberg Parking Lot.
From the Schilthornbahn Cable Car Station, you take the Stechelberg-Mürren Cable Car.
Once in Mürren, you walk through the beautiful town for about 5 minutes to reach the Mürren to Allmendhubel Funicular (Allmendhubelbahn).
Then you take the 4-minute ride up the Allmendhubel Funicular (Allmendhubelbahn), and you’ve reached the playground!

The playground has play areas for all ages- things like rope obstacle courses and tall slides for older kids, but also things like a playhouse with a small slide and sand area for young ones.
There is an underground tunnel with ladder entrances, a water maze where water shoots out and you try to not get hit, swings, climbing nets, and so much more.
Parents will find a few different benches to relax on and take in the gorgeous mountain views. It’s just an overall wonderful place to spend a few hours as a family.
The Flower Trail at Allmendhubal Flower Playground
The Flower Trail is a short loop located directly above the playground (you can see it from the playground; it’s very close) that has multiple informational signs about local wildflowers.
When we visited in Switzerland in September, there weren’t any flowers in bloom. However, I imagine if you were to walk the trail in June or July, when the wildflowers are blooming, it’d be quite lovely to see and learn about multiple types of wildflowers.
It’d take about 20 minutes to walk the loop while reading the signs along the way.
Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel
Located directly next to the playground is the Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel. There is a large deck for eating outside that’s so close to the playground that you could even sit and eat while watching your kids play.
We didn’t eat here; however, the menu looks nice and surprisingly well-priced(for Swiss standards).

Things to Do Near Allmendhubel Playground
Mürren Via Ferrata
While we were playing at the Allmendhubel Flower Playground, my husband actually participated in a guided tour doing the Mürren Via Ferrata.
The Mürren via ferrata is like rock climbing, where you are protected with harnesses and ropes; however, instead of holding onto the actual rock, it’s a mixture of metal rungs, ladders, and bridges on an exposed cliff face 2,000 feet above the Lauterbrunnen Valley floor.
I had zero interest in the via ferrata, and my husband really wanted to, so we realized he could easily do it while we hung out at the playground, no problem.
The meeting point for the guided Mürren Via Ferrata that my husband took is quite close to where you get on the Allmendhubel Funicular, which made logistics super easy.
We later came to find out that there were three other families at the playground at the same time as us, doing the same thing!
One parent from each family was on the same via ferrata tour as my husband, and the other parent was hanging out at the playground with their kids.
We also have friends who’ve visited this area of Switzerland before us, and they did the same thing! It must be quite common.
The minimum age for the via ferrata is usually around 10-12 years old, so if you have older, adventurous kids, they could it with you.
Continue on the Mürren cable car up to Birg Thrill Walk or Schilthorn VIEWPOINT
From Mürren, you can continue on the cable car up to two more stops: Birg and Schilthorn.
BIRG THRILL WALK: In Birg, you can take the (shockingly free) Birg Thrill Walk, which is consists of a steel walkway clung to the side of the cliff over the Lauterbrunnen Valley with a fence-like, crawl-through tunnel, glass-bottomed floor, and more. Not for the faint of heart, but an adventurous family-friendly activity.
SCHILTHORN VIEW: Schilthorn has a popular viewing platform (gorgeous views of course) with a restaurant with equally stunning views.
