9 Budget-Friendly Copenhagen Hotels That Won’t Totally Break the Bank (Includes Aparthotels!)

So you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen and are looking for the best Copenhagen hotels for your trip. I’ve lived in Denmark since 2019 and have visited Copenhagen multiple times.

Unfortunately, Copenhagen has gotten PRICEY in recent years. Hotel prices are right up there with hotels in Paris, Amsterdam, and London 😭.

However, that doesn’t mean you should skip visiting the city- you may just need to opt for a smaller hotel than you are used to, have a shorter stay, or take a short train ride into the city center.

I’m here to share my tips on finding a great place to stay in Copenhagen without breaking the bank.

In general, if I’m looking for a nice place to stay in Copenhagen that will fit two people, I’m happy if it’s less than $300 a night (expensive, I know, but that’s just Copenhagen for you).

I also want it to have an 8+/10 rating on Booking.com

Prices will vary depending on the time of year you visit with July, August, and December being the most expensive.

πŸ“Έ Tours/Excursions: Viator & Get Your Guide
πŸš• Airport Transfers with Car Seats: Welcome Pickups

πŸ“± International Data Phone eSIM: Airalo
πŸš— Cheap Rental Cars: Economy Bookings
🏠 Accomodations: Booking, Expedia, VRBO, Airbnb
🌎 Travel Insurance: World Nomads

So this is my guide to my 9 top recommendations for cheap Copenhagen hotels (and by cheap, I mean under $300 per night).

I’ve found really great, budget hotels in Copenhagen in the city center, near Nyhavn, Tivoli, Copenhagen Central Station, Rosenborg Castle, and more!

Almost all of them offer breakfast, bicycle rentals, sometimes on-site gyms and sometimes even kitchens!

Things to know about Finding Cheap Hotels in Copenhagen:

  • Hotels in Copenhagen are EXPENSIVE (think $300+ per night), especially if you are visiting in July, Augus,t or December
  • Some hotel rooms are so, so small (but that is more common in Europe)
  • Few Copenhagen hotels include a complimentary breakfast (however, you can probably pay for one)
  • Hotel parking is most likely an additional cost
  • Many hotels offer on-site bike rentals (which I highly recommend taking advantage of)

Where to Stay in Copenhagen without Breaking the Bank

1: πŸ›₯️ Near the Canals: Copenhagen Strand (my top Recommendation)

  • Havnegade 37, 1058 Copenhagen, Denmark: Prime spot right along the canal promenade (Havnegade Promenaden) plus only a 5-minute walk to Nyhavn.
  • Breakfast?: Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

Copenhagen Strand is located in a renovated 1869 warehouse and the true gem of this list.

View this post on Instagram

It’s my top choice for where to stay in Copenhagen. The Copenhagen Strand Hotel is located right on the water with beautiful views of the city PLUS it’s still only a 5-minute walk to Nyhavn.

Out the front door is the canal promenade (Havnegade Promenaden) with the fun, small trampolines built into the walkway.

View this post on Instagram

The rooms are in classic Scandanavian style and the breakfast buffet gets rave reviews. I’m honestly shocked they don’t charge more for their rooms. Booking a room here is a no-brainer.

2: πŸ‘‰ City Center: Wakeup Copenhagen – Borgergade

  • Borgergade 9, 1300 Copenhagen, Denmark: PRIME LOCATION! 5-minute walk to Nyhavn & 5-minute walk to Rosenborg Castle/Kongens
  • Breakfast Available?: Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

Wakeup Copenhagen Borgergade has the best location of any of the hotels in this guide. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the picturesque canal of Nyhavn and a 5-minute walk to the gardens surrounding Rosenborg Castle.

View this post on Instagram

It’s quite difficult to find affordable hotels in Copenhagen this close to so many top attractions. But Wakeup Copenhagen is super central, has a great price AND has great reviews!

Other hotels in this area with reviews above 8/10 are going for $400-$500 per night (or more if you can believe it).

If I were to pick just one hotel off of this list, Wakeup Copenhagen would be at the top because of how centrally located it is yet still affordable.

View this post on Instagram

What some people may consider a downside to this hotel is that the rooms are quite small; however, very thoughtfully designed.

Wakeup Copenhagen Borgergade also offers a delicious breakfast buffet and you can even rent a bicycle directly from the hotel to explore Copenhagen with (which I definitely recommend!).

3: 🎑 Near Tivoli: Good Morning City Copenhagen Star

  • ColbjΓΈrnsensgade 13, Vesterbro, 1652 Copenhagen, Denmark: 5-minute walk to Tivoli Gardens, 5- minute walk to meat packing district, 3-minute walk to Copenhagen Central Train Station
  • Breakfast Available?: Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

Good Morning City Copenhagen Star Hotel is a great option if you want to be close to Tivoli and an even greater option if you want as short of walk as possible from Copenhagen Central Train Station (we’re talking 3 minutes).

View this post on Instagram

The rooms here are much more spacious that the first hotel in this guide, but still located next to top things to do in Copenhagen such as Tivoli and the meat-packing district (which is now full of hip, yummy eateries).

View this post on Instagram

To reach Nyhavn you’re just a 30-minute walk away down StrΓΈget (the main shopping street) or a 9-minute metro ride away.

View this post on Instagram

The reviews are great and they have a delicious breakfast buffet and also offer bicycle rentals (which you’ve got to do when in Copenhagen!).

Great news for you if you travel with your pup, they even have pet-friendly rooms available.

4: πŸ›οΈ Near the Pedestrian Street(StrΓΈget): The Square

  • RΓ₯dhuspladsen 14, 1550 Indre By, Copenhagen Denmark: Centrally located overlooking Radhuspladsen Square (City Hall) at the start of StrΓΈget, the long shopping/pedestrian street that leads to Nyhavn. 0-minute walk to StrΓΈget, 4-minute walk to Tivoli, 25-minute walk to Nyhavn or 12-minute metro ride.
  • Breakfast? Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

The Square Hotel in Copenhagen is perfect for you if you want to be as close as possible to the main shopping/walking street in Copenhagen.

Plus, you’re still very close to Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen Central Station and other metro stops.

The Square has beautiful rooms, potential views of the City Hall and a great breakfast buffet available.

5: πŸ‘Ά Perfect for Families/Groups: Modern 2 Bedroom Cottage

  • Ingstrup Alle, 2770 Copenhagen, Denmark: South of Copenhagen nearish the airport. Might be best served if you are traveling with a car.
  • Breakfast available?: No, but has full kitchen
  • Bicycle Rentals?: No

If you need an affordable place to stay in Copenhagen for a large group, this modern 2-bedroom cottage south of the city may be just right for you.

This 2-bedroom cottage sleeps up to 8 people between 2 full beds and 2 sofa beds (plus a crib is available).

Not only does this cottage offer a full kitchen and space for 8 people, but it also has an enclosed yard with a play structure and trampoline!

Table and couches in a room with hardwood floors in Copenhagen- an inexpensive places to stay with a large group
via Booking.com

It always makes our stays so much easier and more fun when there are play things available for our kids!

via Booking.com

The location is a bit tricky with this one, however, it’s possible to get into the city center in about 35-40 minutes via public transit.

6: 🍽️ Has Kitchenette, Near the beach: CPH Studio Hotel

  • Krimsvej 29, Amager Øst, 2300 Copenhagen, Denmark: Bit south of Copenhagen, but just a quick 20-minute metro ride into the city center. Amager Strand beach is about a 10-minute walk away.
  • Breakfast available?: Yes, plus rooms with a kitchenette are available
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

It’s quite difficult to find affordable hotels in Copenhagen with a kitchen, but CPH Studio Hotel offers just that. CPH Studio is a little hidden gem in Copenhagen if you are ok with a quick, 20-minute metro ride into the city.

View this post on Instagram

Even though CPH Studio Hotel offers kitchenettes in some rooms, they still offer a delicous breakfast buffet if you’re not up to making your own.

You can rent bikes from the hotel, and either bike into the city center in about 15 minutes or take your bike on the metro into the city center.

View this post on Instagram

You just can’t take bikes on the metro during rushhour which is weekdays between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and again between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM and you’ll need to buy an additional ‘bike ticket’.

It’s also a quick, easy metro ride to the airport.

CPH Studio Hotel is only a 10-minute walk away from Amager Strand Beach which would be a unique thing to do in Copenhagen.

I recommend booking here if you’re looking for a kitchen and are okay being a short metro ride from the city center.

7: 🩱 Has a Pool & Kitchen: Adina Apartment Hotel

  • Amerika Pl. 7, 2100 KΓΈbenhavn: 12-minute walk to The Little Mermaid & Kastellet, 35-minute walk to Nyhavn
  • Breakfast available?: Yes + kitchenette or kitchen in room
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

The Adina Apartment Hotel in Copenhagen is located on the east side of the city making you closer to The Little Mermaid statue and Kastellet.

It’s not nearly as conveniently located as other hotels in this guide, however, it does offer kitchenettes/kitchens which can be hard to come by for an affordable price.

View this post on Instagram

Another selling point is that Adina Copenhagen features an indoor pool! Perfect if you are traveling with kids and want something to look forward to after a day of city travel!

Even though the location isn’t ideal, they do offer bicycle rentals which is the best way to navigate Copenhagen anyway!

View this post on Instagram

What would be almost an 30-minute walk to Rosenborg Castle/Central Copenhagen becomes a 7-10 minutes bike ride! Way faster than even the public transit options from out there.

8: 🚊 NEAR THE Central Train Station: Comfort Hotel Vesterbro

  • Vesterbrogade 23/29, 1620 KΓΈbenhavn: Quick 5-minute walk to Copenhagen Central Station, 5-minute walk to the lakes and 9-minute walk to Tivoli and the Meatpacking District,
  • Breakfast available?: Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

Comfort Hotel Vesterbro is a fun and trendy hotel on the west end of Copenhagen close to attractions such as Tivoli Gardens, the lakes and the Meatpacking District.

View this post on Instagram

The rooms are beautiful, the hotel is decorated in cool, neon signs and it gets great reviews. Comfort Hotel Vesterbro also offers a great gym which is harder to come by in Copenhagen.

If you’re traveling with more people, some rooms even have comfortable bunk bed options.

View this post on Instagram

Staying here, you’re a good 30-minute walk away from Nyhavn, however, just a 12-minute bike ride or 20 minutes via public transit.

9: ✈️ Close to the Airport: Comfort Hotel Copenhagen Airport

  • Ellehammersvej 18, 2770 Kastrup: ONLY a 3-minute walk from the airport terminal and a 30-minute metro ride into Copenhagen City Center
  • Breakfast available?: Yes
  • Bicycle Rentals?: Yes

You really can’t get closer to the Copenhagen Airport than a 3-minute walk to the terminal. Plus, it’s just an easy 30-minute metro ride into the city center (best of both worlds!).

View this post on Instagram

Comfort Hotel near the Copenhagen Airport is suprisingly affordable, has a great breakfast buffet (and yes they serve it early too for your early-morning flight!). They also have an on-site gym and bicycle rentals if you want to explore the nature area south fo Copenhagen on bike!

View this post on Instagram

If you’re looking for. great hotel near the airport in Copenhagen, Comfort Hotel Copenhagen Airport is perfect and affordable.

And those are my recommendations for really nice but inexpensive Copenhagen hotels.
