Our trip to Malta in June with our two kids was one of our favorite family trips we’ve taken. We couldn’t have asked for better weather.
You may be wondering if Malta is warm in June. I’m here to tell you that June in Malta consists of warm, glorious sunny days and it very well may be the best time of year to visit!
We had a blast exploring the beaches, coves, islands (make sure to spend plenty of time on Gozo), and cities of Malta.

This guide is to help you better understand the weather in Malta in June and decide if it’s also the perfect time for you to visit!
If you are planning to visit Malta with kids, be sure to check out my guide to Malta for families and my guide to Gozo (a smaller, quieter island off of Malta) which contains all of our favorite things we did!

Is June a Good Time to Visit Malta?
Yes, yes, yes! In my opinion, June is one of the best months to visit Malta. The weather is so sunny, warm, and gorgeous, but it hasn’t reached the highest of temperatures that come in July and August.

The summer season is in full swing, however, the island isn’t quite as busy as it gets later in July or August. All tourist-related hotels, restaurants, and shops are open and you can enjoy everything Malta has to offer.
It’s the perfect weather for exploring cities, laying out on the beach, swimming, and taking fun boat trips.
Can You Swim in Malta in June?
Yes! June is an amazing time to go swimming in Malta. The water has warmed up a bit with the average June water temperature in Malta hovering around 73° F. In May, just the month prior, the water temps are still in the 60°s F.

We enjoyed cooling off in the water, but also never really got too hot hanging out on the beach. Seriously perfect.
What is the Malta Weather in June?
My favorite way to research the weather for upcoming trips is to visit Accuweather. On Accuweather’s website, I search for Malta in the location bar and then in the top bar selected ‘monthly’.
This pulls up a calendar to which I select the month of June to show me the expected average high and low temperatures for each day of June for the upcoming year.

My favorite feature on Accuweather is the ability to view the actual highs and lows of the previous year.
In the dropdown menu, I selected June of the previous year instead of the current year. Looking at the past year’s actual temps and the current year’s expected temps gave me a pretty good comprehensive view of what the weather might be during our trip to Malta in June.
The average highs for the weather in Malta in June range from 75°F – 82°F. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
We visited Malta in mid-June, and the weather seriously couldn’t have been better. We had full-on sunshine every day with temperatures between 76-80° F.

As far as rain in June in Malta goes, there is very little! June is one of the driest months of the year.

It was hot enough to want to be swimming but overall still comfortable. I will say, the couple of times that it hit 80°F it felt HOT, but it was usually in the 70°s F and perfect.
I can’t imagine visiting in peak July or August because of the heat. If you want to spend much time out of the water it would be pretty miserable.
When we spent a day in Valletta it started getting pretty warm and we talked of how blazing hot it would be if we had been visiting at a hotter time of year.
Things to Do in Malta in June
If you’re wondering what to do in Malta in June, here are some of our favorite things! For a full list of everything we loved, check out these two posts: 23 Amazing Things to Do in Malta with Kids and 22 Amazing Things to Do in Gozo(island off Malta) with Kids. These are great posts even if you aren’t traveling as a family.
- Go to the beach! June is perfect for swimming and soaking up the sun by the water. Our two favorite off-the-beaten-path places to swim were Wied il Ghasri on Gozo and Ghar Lapsi on Malta.
- Take a boat trip! We took this private boat trip to the Blue Lagoon which is perfect if you want to visit other coves and jump from the boat. There are so many options for fun boat trips though- you can search boat trips on Viator here or on Get Your Guide here.
- Explore cities and villages without getting too hot. We loved exploring Valletta and Mdina.
- Visit ancient archeological sites such as Hagar Qim and Ghar Dalam plus other beautiful sites in the south on this full-day archeology tour of Malta
- Take a day trip to Gozo (the island off of Malta- my favorite part of our trip!) You can take Jeep tours of Gozo, quad tours of Gozo with lunch and a boat ride, or even a day trip to Gozo on a super cute tuk tuk. If you have more time, I suggest staying a few nights on Gozo- it’s quieter and more rural than Malta and we LOVED it.
- Enjoy a sunrise or sunset yoga class on the beach! Perfect for new yogis or experienced ones.
- Visit the gorgeous salt pans and purchase local Gozo salt (our favorite souvenir of our trip!).
What to Wear when Visiting Malta in June
When we visited Malta in June, we wore shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, and linen every day. On the beach we wore swimsuits or light coverups and happily could be in or out of the water.

We never required a light sweater in the evenings, however, it doesn’t hurt to pack one in case you’re enjoying a late dinner or sunset after it cools down.
We packed water shoes for our little ones and Tevas for us which was a good idea because some of the beaches have a lot of small rocks that hurt to walk on.

Even Ramla Bay on Gozo which is a smooth, sandy beach had tons of stones under the water and the water shoes were life savers.
Other Good Times to Visit Malta
The early and late summer months of late May through June and mid-September through October are the best seasons to visit Malta if you are looking for great weather for swimming without it being too hot.

If you’re wanting to escape the crowds but don’t care about swimming, the shoulder season of March and April are good options.
The rainiest months in Malta are November-February but you’ll still probably get quite a bit of sunshine. Don’t plan on getting in the water this time of year unless you really luck out with a warm sunny day.

And that’s everything I think you need to know about visiting Malta in June! We had a blast and couldn’t have been happier with the weather.
