13 of the Best Playgrounds in Copenhagen to Add to Your Itinerary
We’ve lived in Denmark for 5+ years now and we always enjoy a good visit to Copenhagen. Although we live in Billund, Denmark which is 3 hours away (which is the home of LEGO and worth a visit), we’ve still been to Copenhagen probably 10+ times.
One of our favorite things to do is what we call a ‘playground tour of Copenhagen’. We love to soak in the vibe of the city while hopping from playground to playground. It’s one of the best ways to keep both us and the kiddos happy.
While this is not an exhaustive list of the best playgrounds in Copenhagen, it is a list of many of the Copenhagen playgrounds that we like and ones that are in or close to the city center.
I want this article to be a great resource for you if you are planning a trip to Copenhagen as a family and you need to know where you can go to let your littles get out their wiggles.

13 of the Best Parks in Copenhagen for Kids
Here are the top parks in Copenhagen with playgrounds that you may want to plan to visit when you’re visiting Copenhagen. If you’re traveling with kids, it’s vital to have multiple playground stops in your pocket!
1. The Kings Garden Playground
- Things it’s near: Rosenborg Castle
- Toilets?: Yes
The King’s Garden Playground is one of the best playgrounds in Copenhagen to add to your itinerary because it’s located right next to Rosenborg Castle in Kongens Have (or the King’s Garden).
Rosenborg Castle is home to the crown jewels of Denmark and a beautiful place to walk around even if you don’t want to pay to enter. Be sure to check out the huge fish in the castle’s moat!
The playground is fun and nature-inspired with a lot of wood and things for balancing and climbing on.
It’s a low-key playground nestled behind a circle of hedges so that it’s not an eyesore in the beautiful gardens next to the castle.
Our keys loved playing tag, hide and seek, balancing games, and jumping in the sand. I definitely recommend adding this playground to your Copenhagen itinerary.
2. Nikolaj Plads Playground
- Things it’s near: Strøget (the main shopping street) a 7-minute walk from the LEGO store
- Toilets?: No
The Nikolaj Plads Playground is the perfect stop if you are hoping to do any walking or shopping on Strøget, the main shopping street in Copenhagen.
It’s only a 7-minute walk from the LEGO Store (which btw, did you know LEGO was invented in Denmark and Billund Denmark is still home to LEGO HQ today?).
Anyway, this playground is small, but has some great play features. There is a fun structure to climb with tunnels, a rope bridge and slide.
Plus there are a couple of swings and some balance stumps. The playground is located in the shadows of a beautiful old church with an iconic turquoise copper Copenhagen spire.
I thought this was a great playground, especially considering how central it is.
3. Skydebanehaven Playground
- Things it’s near: Vesterbro neighborhood near restaurants in the Meatpacking District
- Toilets?: Yes
In Danish, Skydebanehaven means ‘The Shooting Range Garden’. The ornate gate you enter through is part of a wall of a shooting range from the late 1800s.
This park in Copenhagen is large and has multiple fun features like a large climbing wall/play structure with a slide in the shape of a parrot. Plus a zipline, another play structure with climbing areas and a slide, and lots of tricycles/bicycles to borrow.
In the summertime, there is even water play available at this park in Copenhagen! There are a lot of good places to eat in this area of Copenhagen. A few places I recommend that are a 5-10 minute walk away are La Neta Tacos, Hart Bageri, and Warpigs.
4. Superkilen Park
- Things it’s near: Superkilen Park is a destination on its own, it’s a bit on the outskirts of town. I think the best way to explore Superkilen is on a bike
- Toilets?: No
You’ve probably seen aerial shots of Superkilen Park in Copenhagen with its colorful pavement and the black section with curvy, white stripes.
I’ll admit that the aerial shots of. Superkilen makes it look a bit cooler than it is in real life, but it does have a couple of fun little play areas.
Unfortunately, the play areas are small and a bit spread out. For that reason, I recommend exploring Superkilen via bike. And if you want to feel like a true Copenhagener, then explore it via cargo bike! I have an entire guide about renting cargo bikes in Copenhagen.
5. Hauser Plads Playground
- Things it’s near: The Round Tower (Rundetaarn)
- Toilets?: I think so…
The Hauser Plads Playground isn’t the most exciting playground on this list, however, it’s located near the Round Tower and other city-center attractions making it a good place to stop and let your kids play.
The playground features some swings, a small climbing net, a balancing rope (and our kids’ favorite) two large metal domes.
The metal domes were by far the highlight as our kids loved trying to climb them, slide on them and play catch from them.
Again, don’t add this as a main destination on your day’s itinerary, but it’s a great stop if you are in the area and need to get out some wiggles.
In the peak summer months it appears as though there may be some water play here, but it wasn’t on when we went.
6. Konditaget Lüders Rooftop Playground
- Things it’s near: A bit out on its own, but has views of the industrial area of the harbor
- Toilets?: No
In Nordhaven (The North Harbor) there’s a very colorful and fun playground atop a parking garage called Konditaget Lüders. From the playground, you have views of the more industrial part of the harbor (think shipping containers etc) and you have views of the cruise ships in port.
The playground is bright red/pink and has a huge, rope climbing tower, five small trampolines, multiple types of swings (traditional, bench swings and circle swings) and little hills that make playing tag extra fun.
This playground is super convenient if you have a car because it’s literally atop a parking garage. We happened to have a car with us so we drove to the top level and then accessed the playground via on small flight of stairs.
However, visiting via public transit is also quite easy as the Nordhavn metro stop is just a 5-minute walk away from Konditaget Lüders.
To get to the playground atop the garage, there is a large staircase leading up the side of the parking garage. There is even a small sandy play area at the base of the staircase if your kids love sandboxes!
7. The Traffic Playground
- Things it’s near: Located in Fælledparken sort of near The Tower Playground
- Toilets?: Yes
The Traffic Playground is a unique playground that exudes Copenhagen culture. Basically, the Traffic Playground is a training ground for little kids to learn traffic rules and bike safety while having fun.
There are miniature streets with roundabouts, sidewalks, and road signs exclusively for kids!
It totally makes sense for one of the best biking cultures in the world to have a playspace for kids to safely learn how to ride.
During the playground’s staffed hours, there is a large garage with bikes, running bikes, tricycles and push bikes that you can rent for FREE.
Garage opening hours:
March-October
Mon-Fri: 9 am – 5 pm
Every third Saturday and Sunday: 10 am – 5 pm
November-February
Mon-Fri: 9 am to 4 pm
In addition to the biking area, there’s a playground with slides, a jungle gym, and swings.
8. The Tower Playground
- Things it’s near: The Lakes
- Toilets?: Yes
The Tower Playground is a (very cute) miniature version of Copenhagen’s iconic copper towers. The towers you’ll see in miniature here are the Round Tower, the City Hall Tower, the Exchange Tower, Marble Church, and Our Saviour’s Church.
The towers are all connected with swinging bridges, walkways, and fun slides.
Our kids loved all the different slides and climbing areas and could have stayed here much longer than we had time for. This is definitely one of the cutest playgrounds in Copenhagen for kids.
There is even a small slide and hill for the youngest of your group to get in on the fun.
9. Nørrebroparken Playground
- Things it’s near: Assistens Cemetery the burial spot of Hans Christian Andersen
- Toilets?: Yes
The Nørrebroparken playground is an amazing, large playground with so many fun features of a typical Danish playground.
If you are looking to visit one playground in Copenhagen as a bit of a destination on its own, I’d recommend this playground.
The playground at Nørrebroparken has SO many play areas perfect for kids of all ages (from the littlest to the biggest).
There are two large climbing structures, one shaped like an airplane and one shaped like a boat with a whale.
There is also a toddler-specific play area with perfectly sized structures for the littlest in your group. Plus, around all of the play structures and sandboxes are free-to-use little tricycles and push bikes.
The park also has picnic tables and bathroom facilities.
10. Sandbox at Reffen Street Food
- Things it’s near: Located within a large, outdoor street food market along the harbor
- Toilets?: Yes
Ok, ok… so this isn’t exactly a playground, however, it is a play area that is good to know about! I always like to know places we can eat with kids that have a space for them to play!
Reffen Street Food is a must-visit place to eat during the summer in Copenhagen. It’s a large outdoor street food market with food stalls from around the world.
It’s located right on the harbor with beautiful Copenhagen views and a fun, funky vibe.
Right in the middle of Reffen Street food is an old rowboat filled with sand that immediately is attractive to any little kids walking by.
We love to eat at Reffen and find a spot next to the sandbox boat so that we can peacefully eat while our kids eat and play.
There is also a skatepark at Reffen, however, I’m guessing you won’t be traveling with your kid’s skateboards and scooters.
11. Remisen Free Indoor Playground in Copenhagen
- Things it’s near: The Lakes & Fælledparken (with the tower playground and traffic playground)
- Toilets?: Yes
The perfect play place for a rainy day in Copenhagen (and trust me, there are a lot of rainy days in Copenhagen) is Remisen- an indoor playground in Copenhagen.
Remisen is a FREE, indoor community playspace where you’ll get a real taste of local Danish culture. There is a small kitchen area where you can eat lunch, small rooms with different hands-on activities, and a large high-ceilinged room with tons of different play areas.
The entrance is tucked away down a pedestrian-only street, but you can’t miss it since there is a huge sign on the front reading ‘REMISEN’.
Within the large playroom is a large slide, tunnels, a playground shaped like a ship, a zipline, padded play spaces, balls, bikes, and even little toys for very small toddlers.
We spent AT LEAST two hours playing at Remisen (maybe even three hours) on a bitterly cold day in Copenhagen. Our kids loved it!
Keep in mind that you have to leave strollers outside, so if you have a kiddo with you that usually naps in a stroller you’ll want to plan around that.
12. Havnegade Promenaden Trampolines
- Things it’s near: The harbor
- Toilets?: No
The Havnegade Promenaden trampolines are a small but playful spot to visit with your kids. Right along the harbor promenade in Copenhagen, you’ll find five small trampolines.
These trampolines are a perfect place to stop and get some wiggles out while in a picturesque area enjoying the views.
13. The Slides at BLOX
- Things it’s near: Danish Architecture Center , The Royal Library, the Harbor
- Toilets?: Yes, inside
These fun slides are connected to a multi-functional use building called BLOX that is home to the Danish Architecture Center.
The playground area consists of stairs, ledges, and slides which are perfect to keep your kiddos entertained for a while.
Next to the stairs/slides is another play area with a climbing frame etc, however, this area is used by local daycares during the day and is only accessible to the public after 5 pm.
And those are the best parks in Copenhagen for kids that I recommend! If you have any questions about these Copenhagen playgrounds for families, let me know in the comments below. I’ll be sure to get back to you!
